Culture Areas Area wherein people share same beliefs, customs, skills and language.
General Assembly One of the two main bodies of the UN consisting of a representative from each member state.
Globalization The process by which societies become increasingly interconnected and more inter-dependent.
Government The institution of a society holding legitimate authority over the people of the state.
Ideologies The ideas and beliefs shared by a people that give meaning to events and legitimacy to institutions.
Imperialism The geopolitical system whereby one state maintains direct or indirect rule over another.
Industrialization Process of moving from hand-made to machine production during the 19th and 20th centuries.

International System The organizations and processes through which people interact across state borders.
Legitimacy Condition of being justified by public consensus and accord.
Most-Favored-Nation Status The position enjoyed by states selected to benefit from the lowest trade tariffs.
Multilateral Diplomacy When multiple governments engage in addressing international issues.
Multipolar Adjective describing a system wherein there exists a plurality of power centers.
Nation An ethnic group that has several shared characteristics such as language, history, religion, etc.
Nationalism An individual’s feeling of identity with an ethnic group based on several shared characteristics, such a language, history, and religion
NGO Nongovernmental Organization: private agencies established to connect people with common interests across borders
Patriotism An individual’s feeling of loyalty to the state
Security Council One of the 2 principal bodies of the UN assigned to respond to threats to world peace; consists of five permanent members with veto power (Russia, US, UK, China, France) + 10 members elected by the GA to 2-year terms
State The modern political institution and form of government defined by four characteristics: territory, government, loyal population, and recognition of other states
United Nations The principal political IGO comprised of representative members the world's states. It facilitates cooperation in international law, international security, economic development, social progress, human rights, and world peace.
World Bank An economic IGO that helps with reconstruction & esp. economic development through loans
WTO World Trade Organization: The economic IGO charged with managing trade barriers in the new international system
